Department mission
The mission of the Culture, Sports, Leisure and Community Development Department is to improve quality of life by promoting accessibility, participation, and integration of all citizens through the provision of excellent community, cultural, sports and recreational facilities, activities, and services.
Responsibilities and goals associated with the position
The Assistant Instructor and Lifeguard will teach swimming lesson techniques to young children at the 4 lowest levels of the Olympic Way Program and guard the pool with an Instructor – Lifeguard
The Instructor and Lifeguard will teach swimming lesson techniques to children (5 months and up) and adults, as well as lifeguard the pool.
The jobholder’s main responsibilities are as follows:
- Be responsible for the safety and security of our clients.
- Initiate the emergency action plan and emergency evacuation, when necessary.
- Complete student assessments according to Olympic Way program.
- Communicate with parents as necessary.
- Attend all staff trainings.
Working Hours
Variable summer hours. Minimum of 8 hours per week during fall, winter and spring sessions

Requirements – Assistant Lifeguard and Instructor
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Valid Bronze Cross award
- Ability to work in a team setting as well as individually
- Good communicator with demonstrated enthusiasm for working with young people
- Bilingual (English and French)

- Valid National Lifeguard award
- Ability to work in a team setting as well as individually
