Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Camp Counsellor will supervise a group of children or youth in a day camp setting. Camp Counsellors will assist in the implementation and delivery of camp activities and ensure camper safety and security throughout the day. Follow policies and procedures while delivering camp services. Work effectively with Program Coordinator, Camp Directors, Supervisors, peers, participants and the public.

  • June 4 - 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

  • June 10 - 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

  • June 20 - 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

  • June 25 - 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

  • Must participate in the City's on‑site ropes training; Date TBD

Camp Dates: June 29 - August 28, 2026.


Key Duties and Responsibilities



  • Implement daily camp activities.

  • Modify camp activities to ensure campers with disabilities can participate fully.

  • Ensure a variety of activities in the camp program.

  • Under the supervision of the Camp Supervisor, perform pre and post‑use inspections of all equipment and course elements; set up and take down challenge course equipment, and help to ensure all facility and course elements are left in an organized, safe and tidy manner.

  • Ensure camp ratios are met at all times.

  • Work with Camp Volunteers to ensure they are included in the programs and have various responsibilities.

  • Communicate and interact with participants and make everyone feel welcome.

  • Ensure campers' safety and security throughout the day.

  • Complete all necessary forms (accident, incident) in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Represent the City of Richmond Hill by presenting yourself in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic and well‑groomed manner.

  • Report to work promptly.

  • Wear assigned uniform and name tag.

  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and staff training sessions.

  • Know and understand the policies and procedures of the Community Services Department.

  • Maintain excellent public relations at all times with staff and the public.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience



  • Candidates must be minimum 15 years of age.

  • Background experience and an eagerness to work with children.

  • Leader In Training Certificate or equivalent is an asset.

  • High Five PHCD Certification.

  • Standard First Aid and CPR C.


Required Skills/Knowledge



  • Strong leadership, communication, organization and decision‑making skills.

  • Ability to multi‑task.

  • Requires satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector check.

  • Specialty camp staff are expected to demonstrate experience and knowledge in the applicable area.

  • Must attend a pre‑camp on‑site weekend training.

  • Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions.

  • Shows commitment to personal growth, development, and leadership opportunities.

  • Shares new ideas and challenges the status quo.

  • Proven written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with honesty, openness, respect, and trust.
