About Simcoe Hall Settlement House


Founded in 1935, Simcoe Hall Settlement House is a vital community hub in Durham Region dedicated to supporting individuals and families in need. Through programs focused on food security, youth engagement, and family support, we help thousands of residents each year build stronger, healthier lives.


We are now seeking passionate and skilled community leaders to join our Board of Directors, with a focus on candidates who bring experience in Human Resources, Fundraising, or Community Development.


About the Role


As a member of our volunteer Board of Directors, you will play a key role in shaping the future of Simcoe Hall Settlement House. You will provide governance, strategic oversight, and expertise to help strengthen our organization and advance our mission. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute your professional skills while giving back to your community.


Key Responsibilities



  • Provide strategic direction, oversight, and governance for the organization.

  • Apply your expertise in HR, fundraising, or community development to help strengthen programs and operations.

  • Support the Executive Director and leadership team through committee work and advisory input.

  • Act as an ambassador for Simcoe Hall in the community and help expand our partnerships and networks.

  • Participate in 10-12 board meetings per year (in person) and serve on at least one committee.


Who We’re Looking For



  • HR experience – expertise in recruitment, performance management, culture, or DEI initiatives.

  • Fundraising experience – background in donor engagement, sponsorships, events, or grant writing.

  • Community development experience – understanding of local needs, social programs, or community partnerships.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

  • A deep passion for community service, inclusion, and positive social impact.


Prior non profit or board experience is an asset but not required.
