Registered Veterinary Technician - Emergency Medicine (Small Animal) overnights
We are looking for an RVT to join our emergency team, working three, 12-hour night shifts per week! You must have a degree in veterinary technology. Excellent communication skills are required, both verbal and written, and bilingualism would be an asset but is not a requirement. Attention to details, punctuality and organizational skills are essential. The ability to stay calm and focused in stressful situations is a must. The candidate should demonstrate proactive thinking and be able to function both independently and with a team.
The candidate should be familiar with triaging and procedures commonly seen in an emergency hospital. (e.G. anesthesia, CRI calculations, glucose curves, exotic handling, lab procedures etc.), however training and mentorship are available.
Applicants must have at least two years of relevant experience, with a signing bonus for more experienced applicants.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Triaging emergencies as they arrive
Communicating with clients: patient updates, medication and discharge instructions
Performing CPR
Calculating CRIs on a variation of drug combinations
Admitting patients for hospitalization
Tube feeding/handling of exotics
Performing in-patient nursing care
Assisting in emergency surgeries
Performing technical procedures, such as venipuncture, IV catheter placement, radiographs
Conducting a variety of laboratory tests
Assisting for a variety of procedures, urinary catheter placement, feeding tube placement, thoracentesis etc.
Anesthetizing and monitoring patients during procedures
Work a variety of shifts, including overnights and weekends
Salary: $31.20-43.20/hr
Based on experience, additional qualification and bilingualism
Each potential candidate is assessed individually.

Requirements:
Must be a Registered Veterinary Technician with the OAVT
OR
Eligible to write the VTNE
Fluency in English is required. Individuals with bilingual language skills (French and English) are encouraged to apply and are compensated for it.
