NOW HIRING: EXPERIENCED HEAVY DUTY EQUIPMENT MECHANICS

Tamatta Mining & Construction is seeking experienced Heavy Duty Mechanics for one of our esteemed clients to maintain and repair a diverse fleet for Winter Ice Road operations. You will work on a rotational schedule during the ice road season, ensuring high availability and safe operation of all equipment across remote and challenging environments.

Position: Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic
Location: Nunavut Schedule: 21 days on / 21 days off Fly-In, Fly-Out:
Paid flights, comfortable hotels, and benefits from day one

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, service, repair, and overhaul heavy equipment to maximize uptime for winter operations.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the following fleet: dozers, wheel loaders, excavators, graders, snowcats, water trucks, telehandlers, Ford pickups (F-250, F-350, F-550), flatdeck trucks, camp generators, and lighting plants.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, routine PMs, fuel system maintenance, hydraulic, electrical, and engine work.
  • Use OEM manuals, diagnostic tools, and on-board computer systems to identify faults.
  • Maintain accurate service logs, parts usage, and maintenance records.
  • Keep work areas clean and safe; enforce lockout/tagout and follow company safety policies.
  • Collaborate with field supervisors to plan repairs and minimize downtime during critical ice road windows.
  • Assist with parts coordination, ordering, and inventory control; advise on failures and replacement intervals.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior mechanics and, as needed, support on-call coverage during the rotation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Red Seal or Journeyman-certified Heavy Duty Mechanic
  • Strong diagnostic and repair skills across diesel engines, hydraulics, powertrains, transmissions, electrical systems, and auxiliary systems
  • Comfortable working in cold, remote arctic environments; ability to perform field repairs under challenging conditions
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (includes cannabis) and criminal record check
