Role Overview

We are seeking a Licensed Electrician with strong experience in automated manufacturing systems who is also comfortable supporting mechanical components of production machinery. In this role, you will maintain, diagnose, and optimize electrical, mechanical, and automation systems to ensure equipment reliability and seamless plant operations. You will work closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to support continuous improvement, equipment upgrades, and integration of new automated technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of automated equipment involving PLCs, HMIs, robotics, VFDs, servo/motion systems, sensors, and industrial electrical components.
  • Support both electrical and mechanical repairs, including adjustments, alignments, component replacements, mechanical assemblies, and equipment rebuilds when required.
  • Respond to equipment downtime by identifying issues across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and automation systems and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Maintain, update, and back up automation programs, parameters, and controller configurations using secure and organized processes.
  • Diagnose and resolve communication and network-related issues involving Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC UA, and managed switch configurations.
  • Update and maintain mechanical and electrical schematics, network documentation, and equipment manuals.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring, complex failures across electrical, mechanical, or automation systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections on conveyors, automation cells, wrappers, ovens, forming equipment, robotics, and other electromechanical machinery.
  • Support new equipment installations, commissioning, and integration projects, including SCADA/Ignition upgrades and mechanical setup or alignment of new systems.
  • Ensure work is documented accurately, including labor, findings, parts used, and system data important for long-term reliability.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and safe work practices.
  • Perform other technical duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship

  • Reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid 309A or 442A Electrician Licence (mandatory).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with automated manufacturing machinery.
  • Strong background in both electrical troubleshooting and mechanical system support (gears, bearings, drives, pneumatics, mechanical assemblies).
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View, CCW, TIA Portal).
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems (Ignition preferred).
  • Skilled in reading electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and automation/control documentation.
  • Strong diagnostic skills across electrical, control, and mechanical systems.
  • Able to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with robotics, automated packaging, ovens, and other industrial machinery is an asset.
  • Ability to work afternoon shifts, weekends, or overtime when required.
