Accommodations are available during the hiring process, upon request.</p><p>As an Information and Privacy Lawyer, you will work in the Administrative Law section and have a significant degree of responsibility and autonomy within a team-oriented environment. Primary duties include:</p><ul><li>Provide timely and succinct legal advice to clients on administrative law issues generally, with a primary focus on information and privacy related issues.</li><li>Work directly with members of the Information and Privacy Division of City Clerk's Office, and Corporate Security Business Unit.</li><li>Handle inquiries before the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner as well as applicable judicial reviews.</li><li>Assist with privacy complaint investigations and security incident response.</li><li>Provide timely legal advice and written legal opinions in the areas of access to information, privacy, data protection, records management, cyber security, regulatory, and related matters that may arise.</li><li>Work collaboratively with other members of Legal Services to ensure consistent approach to matters.</li></ul><p>Qualifications</p><ul><li>Juris Doctor (J.D.), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or equivalent degree from a recognized institution and active membership or eligibility for membership with The Law Society of Alberta.</li><li>At least 5 years of experience practicing in the area of administrative law, information and privacy, and cyber security including dispute resolution experience.</li><li>Direct experience practicing law in the area of the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) will be considered an asset.</li><li>You are a thoughtful and results oriented lawyer who has demonstrated the ability to function effectively in a technically challenging area.</li><li>You bring a strategic approach, technical expertise, and a commitment to initiating and inspiring creative problem solving.</li><li>The ability to contribute to a positive work environment and team atmosphere is essential, along with strong interpersonal and communication skills.</li><li>The ability to manage competing interests, tight timelines and work effectively and productively with a variety of people both internal and external to the Corporation.</li></ul><p>Pre-employment Requirements</p><ul><li>Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.</li></ul><p>Workstyle</p><ul><li>This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees.
