Location: Remote, organization based in Ottawa, GTA and Ontario. Occasional national travel required.

About the National Apartment Council (NAC)

The National Apartment Council is a leading voice for Canada’s rental housing and apartment sector. The NAC works closely with industry leaders, developers, and federal and provincial policymakers to strengthen Canada’s rental housing ecosystem. We support members across the country through government relations advocacy, research, engagement programs, and high-impact national events.

Position Overview

The Manager of Membership Relations plays a relationship-focused, engagement-oriented role dedicated to growing and supporting the NAC’s membership community. This role is ideal for a proactive, organized, and dynamic professional with 3–5 years of experience in fundraising, membership development, stakeholder engagement, or relationship management. Candidates must be highly comfortable with structured outreach, frequent follow-ups, and regular phone engagement with developers, brokers, and leaders across the country. The position suits someone who takes initiative, builds strong connections, and thrives in a remote, self-directed work environment.


Key Responsibilities


Membership Growth & Engagement

  • Identify and cultivate prospective members across Canada through proactive outreach and relationship-building.
  • Lead annual membership renewals, ensuring strong retention through consistent follow-up and pipeline management.
  • Develop tailored membership value pitches for developers, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient engagement pipeline.



Member Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for current and prospective members nationwide.
  • Build and maintain long-lasting professional relationships that strengthen NAC’s network.
  • Conduct regular outreach via phone and email and must be comfortable making proactive outbound calls.
  • Provide responsive and professional support to ensure members remain active, engaged, and connected to NAC’s programs.

Events & National Engagement

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute NAC in-person events across the country in partnership with developers, brokers, and industry partners.
  • Manage event logistics including venue coordination, developer relationships, materials ordering, scheduling, and on-site support.
  • Assist with sponsorship outreach and partner engagement to broaden NAC’s national impact.

Internal Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work closely with senior leadership on membership strategies, growth priorities, and national initiatives.
  • Prepare quarterly and monthly reports on membership growth, renewal rates, and engagement metrics.
  • Collaborate with marketing and senior leadership to support membership campaigns and event promotion.
  • Maintain accurate and organized digital and membership management records.

Qualifications


  • 3–5 years of experience in fundraising, membership development, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, confident, warm, and effective on the phone.
  • Understand the dynamics of the “sale” in terms of handling objections, closing a result, and building trust and confidence in prospective members
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience planning events and coordinating logistics across multiple locations is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment and travel occasionally across Canada.
  • Familiarity with CRM or membership management systems is preferred.
  • A proactive, positive, and professional approach to outreach and relationship-building.
