AWT Ottawa has an opening for a permanent, full-time, Estimator (Engineering Cost); please note this posting is for an existing vacancy. The Estimator is responsible for analyzing product specifications and providing accurate and detailed customer estimates for a variety of printing/flexographic/converting projects by considering type of materials, equipment and labor requirements.
Who you are:
- Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Engineering, Science, Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics or a related subject.
- Minimum three (3) years post graduate experience with responsibilities covering purchasing, inventory management, estimating and manufacturing processes.
- Highly proficient with Cost Estimating software, Job Management Systems and Microsoft Office productivity suite.
- Detail oriented and able to accurately carry out detailed and complex mathematical calculations.
- Able to multitask and with well-developed time management skills.
- Excellent grasp of diverse, fundamental mechanical engineering concepts and relationships.
- Able to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents.
- Good communicator (oral and written, including presentation and negotiation skills).
- Problem solver and critical thinker with analytical skills.
- Able to work collaboratively with a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

- Highly ethical worker
- Able to obtain Controlled Goods Certification
What are considered assets:
- Knowledge of Six Sigma techniques, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing.

Primary responsibilities
- Analyzes project specifications and scope of work to create accurate cost estimates for materials, tooling & plates, subcontracted work, production activities and requirements, as well as labor related to printing/flexographic/converting projects.
- Delivers cost estimates within schedules and timelines, ensuring technical requirements are noted.
- Evaluates subcontractor quotes and proposals to ensure that pricing is competitive.
- Collaborates with production and engineers to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
- Serves as a strong technical resource for the Business Development and Customer Service teams.
- Prepares detailed cost reports and presentations for project stakeholders.
- Assists in the training of Business Development and Customer Service personnel.
- Develops and maintains cost estimating tools and databases.
- Interfaces with all other departments to ensure a cooperative effort.
- Maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
- Purchases Tooling and Plates.
- Conducts Project Launch & Review meetings for all new products.
- Other duties as assigned.
