We are currently looking for an Application Production Engineer to join one of our clients, a global investment bank based in Montreal.
Role Overview:
The selected candidate will join a multi-disciplinary production engineering team responsible for supporting enterprise-grade digital service platforms. The role focuses on the operational stability and continuous improvement of a set of applications leveraging Google Apigee and other cloud-based services.
You will work closely with development and infrastructure teams to ensure availability, performance, and scalability of the production environments, while actively contributing to automation, tooling, and incident resolution strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Support & Operations
- Monitor, maintain, and improve the availability and performance of mission-critical applications
- Ensure production environments meet SLA commitments under a follow-the-sun support model
- Provide prompt resolution of incidents and manage root cause analysis
- Participate in release management, application upgrades, and configuration changes
- Customize and enhance production tooling (monitoring, deployment, scheduling)
- Propose and implement solutions to improve reliability, scalability, and automation
Engineering & Project Contributions
- Collaborate on medium to large-scale technical projects, including platform upgrades and migrations
- Contribute to architectural decisions and technical design reviews
- Lead capacity planning and performance optimization initiatives
- Develop scripts, tools, and dashboards to automate tasks and monitor services
Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and application owners
- Produce and maintain documentation related to support procedures and system architecture
- Participate in community best practices and production governance initiatives
Technical Environment:
- Operating Systems: Linux / Unix (advanced system administration)
- Application Servers: Tomcat, Apache, nginx, IIS
- API Management: Google Apigee, REST APIs
- Automation Tools: Ansible, Ansible Tower
- Monitoring Tools: Dynatrace
- Scripting Languages: Python, Bash, Perl, Ruby, Java
- Log Management: Splunk, Elasticsearch
- Networking: Load balancers, Firewalls, TCP/IP fundamentals
- Databases: Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra – nice to have)
- CI/CD & DevOps: Familiarity with pipelines and deployment tools is a plus
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in production support or infrastructure engineering
- Proficiency in Linux system administration, automation, and scripting
- Solid understanding of web technologies, APIs, and networking principles
- Hands-on experience with monitoring tools and production troubleshooting
- Ability to analyze incident data, assess dependencies, and propose improvements
- Experience with performance tuning and capacity management
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a critical production environment
- High level of autonomy, responsibility, and problem-solving mindset
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of Google Apigee infrastructure
- Exposure to cloud platforms and DevOps practices
- Familiarity with ITIL processes, including incident and change management
- Experience with production processes in financial or regulated environments
Working Environment:
- Hybrid work model: 3 days on-site per week in Montreal.
- Candidate must be located in Montreal or willing to relocate
- English fluency, French is a plus.
