Position: Production Scheduler

Position Reports To: Master Production Scheduler

Position Overview

The Production Scheduler drives shareholder value by optimizing daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on sales forecasts and purchase orders. This position acts as a strategic bridge supporting Operations, Sales, and Distribution/Logistics, with a strong emphasis on inventory management. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient production flow while maintaining sufficient raw material and finished good inventory levels.

Major Responsibilities

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Create and maintain daily, weekly, and long-range production schedules based on customer demand, sales forecasts, and inventory targets
  • Coordinate production runs to maximize efficiency and minimize changeover times
  • Proactively manage the production schedules in response to equipment downtime, labor shortages, or supply disruptions.

Inventory Management

  • Responsible for managing and maintaining sufficient raw material and finished good inventory levels
  • Collaborate and communicate raw material requirements to the procurement team to ensure availability for scheduled runs
  • Responsible for assisting in the management of raw material and finished good shrinkage

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders such as Operations, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Sales, and Distribution/Logistics to ensure alignment
  • Communicate schedule changes promptly to all required stakeholders to minimize disruption
  • Communicate any potential impact to the customer(s) with key stakeholders

Data Management & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate data within the ERP system to ensure schedule integrity
  • Monitor schedule adherence and identify root causes of delays and inefficiencies
  • Generate daily reports that indicate key performance indicators such as schedule adherence and customer service levels

Key Success Measures

  • Efficient and timely Production Schedules geared to available raw materials
  • Accurate and timely administration of documentation
  • Accurate and complete inventory management in Dynamics

Qualifications & Considerations for the Position

  • Post-secondary diploma, bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Operations Management, or related experience
  • 2-4 years production scheduling experience, preferably in the meat or food industry
  • Understanding of forecasting
  • Strong math skills and excellent Excel skills to work with processing spreadsheets; ability to work with formulas and format sheets accordingly
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, MS Dynamics), an asset
  • Familiarity with inventory management
  • Excellent Communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs, specifically Microsoft Power BI, Excel, and Teams
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent ability to plan, organize and prioritize with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Team player with a positive attitude and continuous improvement mindset
