Registered Practical Nurse
Job Description
Our 6 South nurses are set up for success and go through a comprehensive onsite orientation program, led by experienced health care professionals and educators. As a member of this interdisciplinary healthcare team, the Registered Practical Nurse collaborates to provide both pre and post-operative care to the adult patient population cared for on the unit. Additionally, the Registered Practical Nurse supports the specialized day-to-day needs of patients who have experienced a traumatic injury of various origins through provision of care in the acute phase of the care continuum.
Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
Current Medication Administration and Asepsis certificates
Current certificates or current community college studies in asepsis, wound care, airway management, complex wound care, patient assessment, urinary catheterization, administering enteral feeds, medication administration, IV administration and IV management, transcribing physician orders
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification or equivalent
Completion of Physical Assessment Course
Recent experience (2 years) in an acute adult surgical unit
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, high turnover environment
Demonstrates strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills
Demonstrates critical thinking and decision making in assessment, problem identification and problem solving
Ability to prioritize and collaborate with the team when the patient's condition changes
