GENERAL SUMMARY:


The Academic Associate is a hybrid role encompassing patient care, research, and education, directly supporting the Cleveland Clinic Enterprise’s tripartite mission of Caring for Life, Researching for Health, and Educating Those That Serve. This position also integrates key components of the Cleveland Clinic Enterprise’s Safety, Quality, and Patient Experience (SQPE) strategy, an organizational priority that requires continuous evaluation and improvement.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Research

Project Management and Execution

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute assigned research tasks and experiments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date documentation of research activities, methodologies, and findings in laboratory notebooks or approved digital systems.
  • Support the design and implementation of research studies in alignment with established objectives, protocols, and methodologies.
  • Collect, organize, and manage research data to ensure accuracy, integrity, and consistency.
  • Conduct ongoing literature reviews to remain current with relevant scientific advancements, methodologies, and best practices.


Data Analysis and Interpretation

  • Analyze and interpret research data using appropriate analytical tools and methodologies.
  • Apply statistical techniques to validate findings and support research conclusions.
  • Evaluate study results to determine alignment with research hypotheses and objectives.


Research Reporting and Communication

  • Prepare research reports, manuscripts, abstracts, and supporting documentation for review by senior investigators or leadership.
  • Develop presentations summarizing research findings for internal meetings, conferences, and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, departments, and external partners to share data, insights, and outcomes.
  • Complete year-end reporting summarizing research activities, milestones, and accomplishments.


Laboratory and Fieldwork Management

  • Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and calibration of research equipment.
  • Adhere to all laboratory and field safety protocols, including appropriate handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Manage research supplies and inventory, including monitoring usage and coordinating procurement as needed.


Administrative and Compliance Responsibilities

  • Coordinate scheduling of meetings, experiments, milestones, and collaborative activities.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements, including preparation and submission of Institutional Review Board documentation when applicable.
  • Assist with research budget oversight, including tracking and reporting of research-related expenditures.


Professional Development

  • Participate in relevant training, workshops, and educational opportunities to enhance research skills and technical expertise.
  • Engage with the broader research community through conferences, seminars, and professional networking activities.


Collaboration and Mentorship

  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary and cross-functional collaborations across departments and the Cleveland Clinic Enterprise, as needed.
  • Establish and maintain a mentoring relationship with an identified research mentor, including regular meetings and goal setting.


Problem-Solving and Innovation

  • Identify and resolve technical challenges related to experiments, equipment, data quality, or workflows.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and process improvements to enhance research efficiency, effectiveness, and clinical integration.


Education

  • Lead the Cleveland Clinic Canada Learners program in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Ensure compliance with Cleveland Clinic Enterprise standards and expectations for caregivers involved in learner education and supervision.
  • Prepare year-end reports summarizing Cleveland Clinic Canada educational activities and achievements.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in a health-related field from an accredited institution.
  • 3 - 5 years in a research setting including data collection, data analysis, and experimental design.
  • Familiarity with International Review Board processes or compliance standards (in academic or medical settings).
  • Knowledge of grant writing or funding proposals.
  • Publication experience in peer-reviewed and non-peer reviewed forums.
  • Relevant certifications or licenses as required by the Cleveland Clinic Research Institute


The salary range reflects the expected compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidates’ experience, education, training and alignment with the role’s expectations.
