Scaler Shipper

Reports To: Production Supervisor

Summary:

The Scaler Shipper is responsible for ensuring the accurate and seamless scaling and preparing of outgoing finished goods shipments, including picking, packing, wrapping and moving raw materials and finished products to and from the designated locations in the cooler. The Scaler Shipper must load and unload pallets regularly, with the capability of repetitive lifting, and using any necessary equipment, e.g. electric pallet jack. Other responsibilities will include the inspection of outgoing shipments to verify contents and quality to ensure that labels and lot numbers are accurate, entered and documented. The Scaler Shipper must understand the impact of this position on other business functions that depend on the accuracy and efficiency of outgoing orders. Team work and communication are essential.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare retail, case ready orders according to customer specifications and input into the shipping system accurately
  • Pick orders and prepare for shipping, including: stacking, wrapping, and scaling products
  • Operate handheld scanners to complete picking, packing, and inventory transactions with accuracy
  • Where needed, ensure colour coded custom labels are completed and attached to pallets
  • Take pictures of products prior to shipping
  • Take pictures of pallets after scanning
  • Match product with purchase orders / shipping orders and verify against reservation numbers after entering into shipping system. If mismatch, notify Sales department for new PO number
  • Inspect product to ensure saleable condition with acceptable code dating for best after date
  • Operate an Electric Pallet Jack in a safe manner to move product
  • Maintain a safe work environment
  • May lift cases or totes of product according to documented procedures
  • Process all required paperwork and maintain adequate records for reporting and tracking
  • Adhere to daily shipment schedule
  • Oversee the safe, secure and accurate staging of shipments
  • Perform quality audits of the condition of goods for outgoing items prior to signing off
  • Report discrepancies to immediate supervisor
  • Follow current standards and procedures
  • Ensure that shipments contain proper documentation and if multiple items per shipment, ensure item lists are complete
  • Problem solve for any cases of missing documents, shipments and deliveries
  • Perform monthly inventory counts
  • Maintain organized work area according to policies, procedures and safety regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • Walkie certification required (will train in house if needed)
  • 1 to 2 years Walkie experience preferred
  • Experience in the chilled and frozen food industry preferred
  • Working experience in Shipping and Receiving role required
  • Ability to perform repetitive heavy lifting (up to 20 kgs)
  • Able to read and communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Knowledge of filling out waybills and bills of lading and international shipments
  • Follow all Walkie safety policies, processes, practices
  • Ability to weigh and measure items
  • Working knowledge of safe lifting methods
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
  • Computer literacy, including working skills of Excel and e-mail
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude


Working Conditions / Physical Demands:

  • Physical ability to lift up to 23 kgs
  • Work is performed in a combination of environments, including meat production room in temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees Celsius
  • Safety equipment is required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, etc.
  • Overtime as required
  • Repetitive tasks within a fast-paced environment
  • This position may be exposed to elements such as noise, dust, odors
