Applications Engineer, Innovation Division

Location: Fully on-site in downtown Toronto, ON

Compensation: $150K to $180K CAD + Equity

About the Role

This role sits within the company’s Innovation Division, the team responsible for building production-ready applications on top of the core platform. You’ll design, build, and own a portfolio of applications end-to-end, taking ideas from early concept through to live, customer facing software.

The work is hands-on product engineering with design, architecture, and exploratory elements. You’ll help define patterns, shape user experience, and bring new application ideas to life in an environment where the roadmap evolves quickly, and creativity is encouraged.

This position is fully on-site in downtown Toronto.

What You’ll Do

• Own applications from 0 to 1 and from 1 to n, including design, implementation, testing, release, and iteration.
• Define shared architectural patterns and components for the broader app ecosystem.
• Build thoughtful user interfaces with Next.js, shadcn/ui, and Tailwind, backed by Python services.
• Work inside a Kubernetes-based environment supported by modern tooling.
• Set and uphold quality bars around testing, observability, performance, and release health.
• Collaborate daily with product and design to run fast, tight feedback loops.
• Help drive customer-facing features by working with real enterprise use cases.
• Support developer experience improvements, including CI, standards, documentation, and reviews.
• Mentor teammates and contribute to hiring as the Innovation Division scales.

What You Bring

• 8+ years of experience as a software engineer in product-driven environments.
• Strong experience with TypeScript, Python, Postgres, and Kubernetes.
• Background in building scalable SaaS applications.
• Product-minded instincts with an eye for UX and clean interface design.
• Ability to architect reusable patterns and components across multiple applications.
• Comfort working in ambiguous problem spaces where direction evolves.
• Experience using LLM-assisted development tools.
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative, in-person working style.

Nice to Have

• Experience working on from-scratch development or greenfield application work.
• Startup background.
• Experience deploying apps into secure enterprise environments.
• Familiarity with Next.js, shadcn/ui, Tailwind CSS.
• Exposure to MCP servers, document extraction, or knowledge base chat systems.
