We are currently hiring for our client for a contract role:

Role: Senior Power Electronics Engineer – AC/AC Converter Development

Location: Saint-Laurent (Montréal)


Duration: 6 month contract

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to lead the development of next-generation AC/DC-DC/AC power conversion systems.

The role involves all phases of product development from concept through production release, focusing on high-efficiency, high-reliability power converter solutions.



Key Responsibilities:


Design and develop advanced AC/DC-DC/AC power conversion topologies and control strategies

Create detailed circuit designs including power stage, gate drivers, and control circuits


Perform comprehensive circuit analysis and simulation using specialized software tools

Develop and implement digital control algorithms for power conversion systems


Design and execute validation tests for prototype systems

Optimize designs for efficiency, thermal performance, and EMI compliance


Create technical documentation including design specifications and test procedures

Collaborate with mechanical engineers for thermal and packaging solutions


Guide PCB layout and review designs for manufacturing

Troubleshoot complex system-level issues during development


Ensure designs meet safety standards and regulatory requirements

Required Qualifications:

PhD in Electrical Engineering with focus on Power Electronics


7+ years industry experience in power electronics design

Extensive knowledge of power converter topologies and control theory


Proficiency in circuit simulation software (Matlab/Simulink)

Experience with digital control implementation using MCU


Strong understanding of magnetic component design

Familiarity with thermal management and EMI/EMC considerations



Knowledge of relevant safety standards (UL, IEC, etc.)

Technical Expertise:

Power semiconductor devices (IGBTs, MOSFETs, SiC)


Digital control systems and power electronics modeling

PCB design considerations for high-power applications


EMI/EMC mitigation techniques

Thermal management and cooling system design


Control firmware development

Power quality and grid interface requirements

Ability to lead technical discussions and present complex concepts

Strong documentation and communication skills


Detail-oriented with focus on quality and reliability

Laboratory Requirements:

Ability to work safely with high-voltage systems


Experience with power electronics test equipment

Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols


Capability to perform detailed measurements and analysis
