About the company

Nokia's transition to a telecommunications-focused company began in the 1990s. The first GSM call was made in 1991 using Nokia equipment. Nokia quickly became the leading mobile phone brand by 1998, introduced the first camera phone in 2003, and partnered with Microsoft in 2011 amidst rising competition from iOS and Android. Nokia sold its mobile division to Microsoft in 2014, and after acquiring Alcatel-Lucent in 2015, shifted its focus to network hardware and software, especially in the 5G era.
