Job Title: Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) – ServiceNow, Application Infrastructure

Job Description: Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)
Role Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our Application Infrastructure team, focusing on the reliability, scalability, and performance of our ServiceNow SaaS implementation. This role blends software engineering with systems engineering to support and enhance the production environment, ensuring high availability and resilience of client-facing applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Embed production management practices into Agile development workflows to ensure code meets production standards.
- Implement and maintain System Reliability Engineering (SRE) and DevOps practices to reduce downtime and manual effort.
- Configure and develop application monitoring solutions using industry-standard tools and custom scripts.
- Build deep knowledge of business processes and applications to support mission-critical systems.
- Analyze and align SRE metrics with organizational goals; drive improvements based on findings.
- Develop automation to eliminate toil and repetitive tasks across the environment.
- Collaborate with development teams early in the SDLC to design resilient, reliable systems.
- Prioritize tasks based on incident criticality and business impact.
- Govern and control production environments in collaboration with clients and technology teams.
- Manage incidents following the ITIL lifecycle, including documentation, resolution, and communication.
- Prepare and present stability reports; analyze trends and recommend improvements.
- Investigate root causes and educate development teams to prevent recurrence.
- Automate resolution of common issues, routine investigations, and user requests.
- Lead reliability-focused or business-driven projects.
- Troubleshoot across the full stack: hardware, software, applications, and networks.
- Mentor junior SREs on best practices in monitoring, troubleshooting, and automation.
- Represent the SRE team in design reviews and operational readiness assessments.
- Participate in on-call rotations and collaborate with global teams across time zones.
Qualifications:
Preferred Skills
- 7+ years of relevant experience
- ServiceNow administration or development (can be acquired on the job)
- Automation using Python, Bash, Perl, Ruby
- Experience with enterprise tools (AppDynamics, Grafana, Splunk, Dynatrace)
- Familiarity with cloud and on-prem infrastructure
- Software development in one or more languages (e.g., Python)
Desired Skills
- Proficiency in automation using scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Perl, or Ruby
- Experience with enterprise monitoring and observability tools such as AppDynamics, Grafana, Splunk, and Dynatrace
- Strong awareness of modern software and systems architecture, including:
- Load balancing
- Queueing mechanisms
- Caching strategies
- Microservices architecture
- Distributed systems and their failure modes
- Deep understanding of operating system fundamentals, including:
- Process management
- Memory allocation
- Network stack behavior
- Application-level impact and debugging techniques
- Practical experience operating and maintaining large-scale, high-availability online systems
Technical Experience
- Service Oriented Architecture and Distributed Systems
- Business Intelligence Reporting
- Scripting (Python, Shell)
- Front-end development (HTML, JavaScript, AngularJS)
- Logging, Monitoring, and Docs-as-Code practices
- DevOps and SRE principles, including tooling and implementation
- Infrastructure: Linux/Unix administration, Storage, Networking, Web Technologies
- Advanced Unix Shell and Python scripting
- Advanced SQL (Sybase and/or DB2 preferred)
- Azure-hosted application support (preferred)
Operational Expertise
- Incident management and coordination across teams
- Three-tier support experience with databases (IBM, DB2, Sybase, MongoDB, Green Plum, KDB)
- Troubleshooting ServiceNow and Linux-based systems
- Observability: metrics, logging, tracing, alerting
- Technical debt identification and prioritization
- Contribution to system design and architecture
Domain Knowledge
- Financial products: Equity, Fixed Income, securities, investment banking risks, trade flow
- ITIL processes and incident lifecycle management
