Your Opportunity


As a Transportation Planner/Engineer in our TPTE group, you will work on a variety of projects, providing technical expertise, supervising junior staff, and ensuring work stays on schedule and within budget. The ideal candidate is a problem‑solver with experience in engineering and planning projects, knowledge of regulatory requirements, strong communication skills, and a demonstrated ability in transportation planning, data analysis, and modeling.


Key Responsibilities



  • Plan, conduct, and coordinate technical aspects of assigned projects and tasks.

  • Apply transportation planning, modeling, and traffic engineering concepts.

  • Perform traffic, GIS, and land‑use data analysis, prepare calculations, and conduct various transportation studies.

  • Coordinate with clients, regulatory/resource agencies, and local governments.

  • Provide initial quality assurance and control for technical products to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Prepare technical reports and memorandums for traffic impact studies, parking studies, transit planning studies, feasibility studies, and environmental assessments.

  • Assist in resolving technical project issues, presenting reports, and providing client service.

  • Conduct due diligence and research to develop project background information.

  • Assist with proposal preparation, project reporting, and marketing efforts.

  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.


Qualifications & Experience



  • 5–8 years of experience as a transportation planner or traffic engineer, including traffic impact studies and environmental assessment work.

  • Minimum two years of Canadian experience is an asset.

  • Expert knowledge of traffic engineering concepts, including intersection operational analysis and signalized intersection design.

  • Professional experience with Synchro, ARCADY, SIDRA, or similar intersection analysis software.

  • Strong knowledge of provincial and municipal legal requirements and design/planning procedures.

  • Experience managing small projects and tasks.

  • Knowledge of road safety studies and projects.

  • Ability to work independently with high-level direction and supervision.

  • Experience working within established timelines and project budgets.

  • Initiative in task coordination and team collaboration.

  • Proficiency with EMME, VISUM, Aimsun, or VISSIM for demand forecasting and simulation modeling (asset).

  • Microsoft Office proficiency and experience with Access and MS Project.

  • Highly motivated, eager to learn new skills, and effective time management.

  • Strong analytical, technical writing, and oral communication skills.

  • Knowledge of transit planning, active transportation, pedestrian modeling (VISWALK or Legion), and rail modeling is an asset.

  • Experience with TAC and Ontario municipal geometric design standards is beneficial.

  • Programming and scripting skills are a great asset.

  • Collaborative attitude when working with sub‑consultants and contractors.

  • GIS and AutoCAD skills are an asset.

  • Municipal experience is an asset.


Education and Experience



  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Engineering, or related field.

  • Master’s degree is an asset.

  • Active P.Eng. or RPP certificate, or the ability to obtain it within a short time, with a minimum of 5–8 years of related experience.


Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (minimum one day in‑office; hybrid work environment). Travel may be required for site visits and client meetings. This description does not constitute a comprehensive list of duties; additional responsibilities may be assigned or changed at any time.
